iPhone XR Review: Is it Better than iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X?

Is it worth buying the new iPhone XR in 2018?

Earlier this month, Apple launched three new iPhones. The iPhone XS and XS Max were introduced in the premium range and the iPhone XR was the cheapest iPhone launched this year. Prior to the launch of this phone, people thought that the company would launch some affordable variant of the iPhone like it had launched the iPhone 5C. But reality certainly does not look like anything close to peoples expectations. The company’s objective behind launching iPhone XR is a better user experience and the iOS ecosystem. It has a price tag of $749. So in this article, we will be reviewing the iPhone XR and assisting you to make a choice about buying one for yourself.

What’s the story behind the name of the iPhone XR :

First of all, let me tell you that this phone is named iPhone XR but it is called iPhone Ten R. Yes, the X stands for 10.  So everyone used to address it by saying iPhone X but the correct name was iPhone Ten. Apple has introduced these phones with Roman numbers to get rid of confusion as many smartphones are present in the market which have the usual numbers to address their smartphone models.

The iPhone XR Design:

The iPhone XR offers an all-screen design just like the iPhone XS and XS Max. This device looks similar to the iPhone XS, but it is quite different from it. It is light in weight. This phone is made from aluminum finish frame, so its frame comes in matte look. This phone has been made available in 6 color variants Black, White, Blue, Yellow, Coral, and Red. According to Apple, the back panel of this phone is significantly stronger than the iPhone X. iPhone XR is dust and water Resistant. It has been given IP67 protection. This means that the phone can last up to 30 minutes for 1 meter inside the water. This phone comes with a glass back finish. It also supports fast wireless charging. In terms of design, it looks like the iPhone XS and XS Max. Among them, the main difference is the camera module. Only one camera lens is given in the iPhone XR. While the dual rear camera is present in the iPhone XS and XS Max.

The iPhone XR Display :

The iPhone XR has a 6.1-inch liquid retina display. Users will not have the same experience as iPhone XS and XS Max. But the difference is so small that you can hardly notice it. Just like the iPhone XS, XR also uses Advance 6-Channel Ambient Light Sensor to adjust the white balance onscreen to match the color intensity around you. It is also called TrueTone technology or TrueTone display.

Its display supports features such as tap-to-wake, swipe-up, swipe down and control center. After the launch of the iPhone 6S, the users were using 3D Touch but this feature has not been given in the iPhone XR. Apart from this, the pixel density of this phone is 326 pixels per inch. In such a phone you will get the option of Dynamic and Still wallpaper. It feels great to watch videos on the iPhone XR. But when it comes to playing games such as PUBG or Asphalt 9, the phone surely lacks the crisp gameplay experience which we can feel on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

The iPhone XR Camera :

Talking about the biggest change in the iPhone XR, it would involve one important change, its single lens camera module. It has a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, which has an aperture of f / 1.8. It offers optical image stabilization and 4K video recording at 60 fps. The wide-angle camera in this phone is similar to the iPhone XS. The iPhone XR also supports the Smart HDR, which helps to highlight images and improve shadow detection in the photos. The iPhone XR can capture vibrant images in portrait mode and Bokeh effect mode. This kind of feature was first seen in Google Pixel XL, which is capable of taking a Bokeh Effect image with a single lens. The only difference in portrait mode of the iPhone XR and the iPhone XS is that this phone does not have Stage Lightning and Stage Mono Portrait Lite mode.

Talking about capturing portrait selfies, this phone’s front camera is just like the iPhone XS. It offers all 5 Portrait Lightning Modes. It also has a Quad-LED True Tone Flash, which works to improve colors in the captured photos. Apart from this, there is also a Flickr Detecting Sensor which offers Auto White Balance in Photos.

The iPhone XR Performance :

Even though the iPhone XR has a little hardware module, the performance of the phone is very good due to the iOS 12. In this case, we are forced to think that is the iPhone XR faster than iPhone XS? The difference between these two is quite small, but it is much bigger in terms of user experience. One reason for this is that the iPhone XR comes with the A12 bionic chipset. This chipset is also given in XS and XS Max. In this case, the iPhone XR is as good as the other iPhones in terms of performance.

Talking about connectivity, the features in iPhone XR are very similar to the ones we have on iPhone XS and XS Max. Dual SIM connectivity has been provided on this phone. We can accommodate a nano-SIM and an eSIM. eSIM technology is created by Apple. It has been made available in the iPad, Apple Watch Cellular, iPhone XS and XS Max. It will be made available at the end of this year and can be activated by scanning the QR code allotted by the service provider. Apart from this, 64GB, 128GB, and 256 GB storage variants of iPhone XR are available. There is no 512 GB storage variant for this iPhone. The iPhone XR supports AR games and apps and has the facility of animosity in it. Its TruePath front camera can capture and enqueue 50 different facial movements.

Our verdict about the iPhone XR:

The price of this iPhone XR is $749. At the same time, its top variants cost is $899. Many users are thinking of buying the old iPhone 8 Plus as it has a lower price tag and a better option with the dual camera lens. But we would like to say that if you do not want to buy an iPhone for $1,000 or more and if you are not a big fan of 3D Touch, massive 512 GB storage then the iPhone XR can be a good option for you to buy an iPhone from Apple’s latest range of iPhone!
