What Will Be the Impact of Us China Trade War

0

The sheer size of the US and Chinese economies ensures that the stakes in this trade war are high. Together these two giants constitute almost two-fifths of global GDP, which means even if not directly, there has to be an indirect impact on every nation’s economy globally.

“War does not determine who is right – only who is left.”

― Bertrand Russell

What is this Trade War All About?

All this goes way back to September 2011, before Trump was running for President, he had tweeted that China is neither a friend or an ally. Cut to his presidential campaign which was all about “Let’s make America Great Again”, he was all about china’s trade malpractices and how it was thieving Americans.

The world’s two largest economies have imposed tariffs on billions of dollars’ worth of one another’s goods since July 2018.

Impact on America

  • 49 per cent of imports subject to new tariffs are intermediate goods, which are subsequently used in American manufacturing facilities to make finished products.
  • The raised import tariffs are hitting the US manufacturers who rely on lower-cost inputs shipped from China.
  • Another set of business caught in this crossfire is the firm that had their manufacturing units in China and had the finished goods imported back to the US, these small businesses are now forced to move out from china to other south-east Asian countries.

Impact on China

  • As a measure to step aside from the enormous tariffs, many countries are moving out of China, which means a significant opportunity loss
  • A recent survey by the American Chambers of Commerce in China and Shanghai found 40% of respondents are considering shifting or have already relocated their Chinese manufacturing facilities – mostly to South East Asia.
  • Google is shifting its Pixel smartphone production to Vietnam from China starting this year and that the company is also looking to shift some of its smart home speaker assemblies to Thailand.
  • Also, the US has been the primary consumer for Chinese goods, now with Americas clear intention to shop around. China has to gear up for that loss too.

Impact on India

  • A piece of good news here is, India isn’t affected by this tit for tat trade war, mainly because our exports is just 2%, which is very low to have an impact.
  • A silver lining for us here is that India has an opportunity to strengthen its trade footprints.
  • India is targeting companies including Apple and several others with an aim to encourage them to shift business out of trade war-hit China, according to Reuters

Impact on the Rest of the World

Nine significant economies around the world, including the UK, Germany, Russia, Singapore and Brazil, are already showing signs of economic slowdown and are on the brink of recession. The economic impact of the US-China tariff war will be catastrophically huge. It is estimated to cost $585 billion to the global economy by 2021.

Except for Australia, which ships around a third of its exports to China, mostly commodities such as iron ore and coal that are used by heavy industry and in the building of apartments. Trade has been so good, and that Australia logged its first current-account surplus—a measure of trade and financial flows with other countries—since 1975 in the second quarter of this year.

The end line is that this escalating U.S.-China trade war is unwinnable by either side,

According to new research shown exclusively to TIME. A further new number-crunching analysis says only China has the manufacturing capacity to satisfy the U.S.’s huge appetite for products, meaning American consumers must continue to buy from China or U.S. retailers will suffer. Inversely, American demand far outstrips the rest of the world combined, meaning China cannot replace its American customers with those elsewhere for the foreseeable future—or at all.

Let’s all hope that sense prevails and this war is brought to an end before much harm is done to the global economy.

New Minimalistic Full-screen Design

Xiaomi redesigned the overall UI to make it look cleaner and more organic. They spaced and rearranged things to make it look more pleasing than before. Moreover, they removed additional colours. All these changes were made accordingly to enhance the dark mode on Xiaomi devices.

You can also add a custom message to your AOD. You can use this to add an inspirational message or note on your AOD.

Do note that these AOD features will only available on the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro.

A Reimagined Notification Light

Upon receiving much feedback from users, Xiaomi decided to reimagine the way we get notified when the screen isn’t on. Instead of using the notification LED, some beautiful animations will be displayed on the AOD.

But the question is when dynamic wallpapers make budget MIUI devices like the Y2 relatively slow, won’t video wallpapers make the device even slower? Yet again, we need hands-on experience to answer this question.

The Redesigned Docs section

In a bid to enhance work experience, Xiaomi redesigned MIUI 11’s documents section. Considering documents as one of the essential elements of your office work that you do on your mobile, the Docs section now gives you a thumbnail view. This redesigned section categorises documents according to formats to help you find the material you need faster.

The inbuilt Mi Doc Viewer lets you open documents of various formats quickly without having to launch another app.

Tasks Section In Notes App

With MIUI 11, you can easily create a to-do list in the Notes app. In this section, you can add various tasks and assign a due date for them. It will get automatically synchronised to the Calendar app.

In case you want to add a new entry to your to-do list or check it quickly, you can swipe right from the top to access the to-do list.

In case you’re even busier to type out your task (or if you’re way too lazy to do it) you can also voice-record your task by performing the same gesture.

Calculator App

For example, when you want to sum up the expenses you made in your last trip, you’ll have to continuously change apps between the text app and the Calculator app. But it’s much of a headache. With MIUI 11, you can use the floating calculator within the text app to do the math without having to change apps continuously.

Step Tracking

As health consciousness is gaining importance in the tech industry, Xiaomi added a step tracker built into the MIUI 11. Since you take your smartphone almost everywhere, the built-in proximity sensor could be used to calculate the number of steps that you walk. The steps data can be used to derive further calories burnt and distance walked, just as in the Mi Bands.

Quick Replies

Quick replies enable you to reply to call or text while continue doing what you are doing. For example, take a real-life situation when you are watching a video or playing a game, and a vital call arrives. Here, Quick Reply allows you to answer the incoming call while you can continue doing your work. Most probably, this feature has been inspired by the roaring irritation of gamers when they receive a call while playing a match.

The Main Issue

MIUI is overall great. It’s one of the best custom Android skins out there. But there is still a major draw-back. Something which bothers most people when they think of buying a Xiaomi phone. Something which people are annoyed about in MIUI. Something which makes people change their smartphones to other brands. And if you’re or have been MIUI users, you’d have surely guessed it. It’s the ads. The ads are everywhere, from all native apps to the home screen and the App vault. Some of them are banner ads while some are the most-irritating pop-up ads.

[Tired of Ads on MIUI? Here’s How To Remove Ads From MIUI]

Earlier this year, when Xiaomi’s Product Director and General Manager for MIUI Experience talked about the MIUI 11, he revealed that a special emphasis on reduction of ads is being made in MIUI 11.

Five Things Men Should Do To Fight Off Irritability and Mood Swings

0

Just like women have mood swings, the same holds for men too. At times, even they get irritable and moody and this can affect the mental and physical state of a person. This can be referred to as an irritable male syndrome.

The problem is that irritability can make the atmosphere heavy and there would be more negativity and stress around. Whether at the office or at home, when men get irritable, they tend to make things harder for themselves and also for people around them.

What does it mean by irritable male syndrome?

Irritable male syndrome can be a temporary phase in men. If these things happen now and then in a man then it needs medical attention too. The other terms of being irritable would be getting cranky and grumpy.

If there is such an attitude in the home then there will be stress and tension at home. If such things happen in the office then there will be a problem in work productivity. In one way you can say that carbon monoxide is the pollutant for the mind and that would create vibes within you and stress around.

This can also harm the people around them. Hence you can say that irritability is contagious. But it needs to be fought off.

There are a few things that can be done to fight off irritability

There is no such effective treatment for irritability. All you need to do is do a few things to boost the morale up. In the times when irritability has become a common symptom or outcome of stress, a few things can really help.Five Things Men should do to Fight off Irritability and Mood Swings

  • Figure out the real source of stress

If you wish to get rid of irritability and stress then find out what could have caused the same. If you can identify the source then just think how to address the same. You can also think over the past in which you might have solved the symptoms of irritability. So, think of that and solve the problem this time as well.

  • Avoid too much of caffeine

If you have the habit to have coffee breaks in between your work schedule then you may end up getting irritable at times. So, make sure that you reduce the caffeine intake and keep yourself charged and motivated with your own spirit.

Like you can go for a stroll, workout a bit and so such things that would help you to produce happy hormones within the body! Similarly, if you rely a lot on alcohol as well then that habit should also be kicked off.

  • Do not be too competitive by nature

If you are too competitive by your nature then you will feel irritable at even the smallest of things. Like, if you were in a debate with your friends and if your friends win over the same, then chances are that because if your irritability you will be getting stressed out or angry. So, try to ignore and think of these things as silly things.

  • Try to enhance the feelings of empathy and compassion

Often when we get into the self-pity mode, we would get into irritability. In fact, men are too much into how they lost a project and how they couldn’t win over a debate and so on. So, when your head starts feeling irritable, all you must do is get back into the soothing emotions.

Empathy and compassion are the feelings that you need to get in touch with to calm yourself down. You must think about how there are issues in the lives of other people and how you are the lucky one. If at all you have the means or resources then you can help them. These kinds of feelings will give you a better feel. Of course, gratitude will give you an even better approach towards things.

  • Find time for yourself

If you can find some lonesome time for yourself then you will be able to analyze things well. Often, when we are not much in sync with ourselves, we tend to get irritable. So, all you must do is get some time off to communicate with self and this will sort out the inner tissues of the mind.

Apart from the above, if you take up some physical exercises and also some workout sessions then that can give you a better effect in your mind. So, these are some of the ideas that you can work on to fight off irritability then.

Men have a lot of stress in life. But what matters the most is how to develop stress-fighting ability. This can help in sorting irritability and some such negative emotions.

7 Ways To Handle Criticism Like A Professional

0

Life will give you chances where you get to know yourself a little more. You will find yourself differently each time because every circumstance in life demands a new version of yourself. Criticisms are a part of the journey of life.Criticism

Pretty much every human being, at some point in their lives, has been criticised either in a professional way or in an insulting tone. Sometimes it is really difficult to accept, but it is the way we respond to the situation that makes a difference in our lives.

If we positively use criticism instead of getting depressed and anxious, we will only improve in the game of life. So read till the end to know about the hacks of handling criticism like a professional.

What is Criticism?

Criticism is the action of expressing disapproval or judging something or someone. There are two types of criticisms :

  • Constructive Criticism:

Constructive criticism the kind of comments or judgments given to you for pointing out your mistakes so that you can improve in a better version of yourself. Example – Statements like, ” your assignment sucks gotta work hard”.Constructive Criticism

These kinds of criticisms should be taken as feedback instead of getting anxious or sad because an individual who accepts his mistake and moves on is always successful.

  • Destructive Criticism:

These are malicious, hurtful comments, judgments just arising due to thoughtlessness or personal conflict of the person who is criticising. Example – Statements like, ” Your voice is so bad, you look ugly “.Destructive Criticism

This is challenging and often creates negative self-pride, anger, lower confidence, and self-esteem. You always have to remember the fact that any fool can insult you, judge you, hurt you, it is because of their insecurities.

Its nothing about you, it’s about them. It takes a lot of self-understanding and self-control to be balanced in such situations.

How To Handle Criticism In A Positive Way?

Think again about the meaning of criticism

Whenever you are being criticised, always remember the purpose of criticism and either it is constructive or destructive. Accept the constructive one since it will only help you grow and don’t give any importance to the destructive one instead respond professionally with a critic by staying calm and just returning in spite of reacting out of temper.

Practice self-love

This is a pro tip that will help you deal with any situation. Since childhood, society teaches us that self-love is arrogance but according to me, its the only way we accept ourselves unconditionally. When we accept both our talents and flaws, it is easier to handle criticisms since we know ourselves fully and we are working on it.

Respond, don’t react

We often have a habit of responding since our defence mechanism gets active while hearing criticisms. Use the 17-second pause method. Instead of acting suddenly, pause for roughly 17 secs or more to gather up and collect all your thoughts to process the criticism and respond in a polished manner.

No matter how harsh the criticism is if you respond instead of getting angry, the critic will understand you can handle immense pressure and can never be broken no matter what.

You will only move upward; there is no way downward for you again because everything teaches you something new about yourself.

If you feel you are losing control over yourself and cannot stay calm, feel free to leave the situation and take as much time required to gather yourself up and speak out. Always remember you are essential, not them.

Take back your power

Be grateful to the critique and thank them for their criticisms along with your authentic comments. Thanking the critic and staying calm always agitates the critique and will give you more power and stability in that situation.

Focus on the problem, not the person

No matter whatever the criticism is all about, always focus on the issue or situation and not on the person who is criticising. This helps you make decisions and respond more precisely. Stick to I-statements to take control of the situation and avoid confrontations.

Positively insert negative comments

Example: if someone says that “you are incapable or you are ugly”, instead of reacting to that you can say negative comments in a positive way like ” It requires enough talent to understand my capability!” or “it requires a beautiful vision to recognise true beauty!” This instantly confuses the critic, and it takes time for the person to respond. The critic will think twice before criticising you the next time.

Accept your mistakes

Every one of us makes mistakes, it is quite natural to fail, but when you accept your failures and mistakes, you only evolve into a better version of yourself.

It is easy for the people to blame you for your faults, but if you accept the blame and work on yourself, that is the best way to shut the mouth of the critics. Sometimes action speaks more than words.

STAYING POSITIVE WHILE YOU ARE BEING CRITICIZED

Criticisms are just opinions that are never a truth; it is harmless unless we believe in them. The first thing you have to understand is that not everyone is going to like you. Everyone has their own opinion. Their opinions don’t dictate your future.Stay Positive

Neither their words become true for you. Criticisms are the most ancient activity embedded in our culture. There will be people who want to hug you for who you are; there will be people who want to slap you, there will be people who will bring out the best in you and again there will be people who will criticise you due to their insecurities and jealousy. You have to accept this fact wholeheartedly.

Here acceptance is the critical factor; if you accept the fact and cherish your life with the right people you have beside you, your life will become different.

I understand its more comfortable to say than being done in reality, but you always have to take risks and try something new to be the best version of yourself.

Always remember the fact ” You are important not them.” If we practice the above steps, it will help us to stay happy and decisive even in the toughest situations. I hope you have a fantastic day ahead. Thank you for reading until the end.

10 Self-care Tips for College Students

0

The life of a college student is riddled with piles of assignments, part-time jobs, and hectic social life to boot! Away from the support system of the family and friends you’ve known for years, it is important to take some time out and take optimum care of yourself and have a self-care routine.

Pamper sessions and off-days shouldn’t be a once-in-a-blue-moon affair with ritualistic connotations. Self-care should be a part of your daily or weekly routines, just like studying or working. It is essential to lavish some care and attention on yourself and has a self-care routine, so you feel rejuvenated and motivated to go about your week instead of drudging through it.

Practice these self-care routine control of your life and always bring your A-game.

1. Sporadic Social Media Detox

Students, especially in college, spend so much time on social media- often comparing their lives to those portrayed by others on Instagram- they end up overcompensating in every sphere to meet up with social media expectations.A sticky note with a message

Putting up Instagram stories of studying late into the night, working on your laptop at the fancy cafe, eating ‘aesthetically pleasing’ food, partying hard every week- such expectations create tremendous pressure and make for an extremely toxic state of mind. Detoxing from social media will help de-clutter your brain and refresh you, making you feel more at peace with yourself.

You could take a couple of days off social media every month, or maybe designate a day of the week as a ‘no social-media’ day, so you can figure-out and indulge in things you enjoy doing, rather than just doing it for social cred fuelled by FOMO.

2. Pamper Day

Dedicate a day to pamper yourself and de-stress from the week. Take a long bath- switch on some upbeat music while you’re in the shower and wash away the stress of the week.Pebbles with message

You could indulge in an extended skincare routine, including exfoliating and DIY masking. Get your hands on a sheet mask if you can, and feel your soul go to a happy place!

Skincare is a sure-fire way to make yourself feel better, irrespective of your gender, as you physically take care of and validate yourself. Do a movie marathon, or re-watch legendary football matches. Pamper days are important to make yourself feel loved and cared for, amidst all the hustle.

3. Binge on a TV show

Friends on Netflix
Watch a wholesome and feel-good TV series or guilty pleasure from your teens. Old (and often trashy) YAfantasy dramas, possibly-cringy chick-flicks, and relatable sitcoms are a particularly good choice.

4. Meditate

Meditation
Meditate to focus, re-evaluate, and get into a better frame of mind. This will help you retain more information and approach your academics with a positive outlook.

5. Cleanse your Space

A cluttered and disorganized room will make you unproductive and feel frustrated. Your space is an extension of yourself, and it tends to mirror the state of your mind.

A cluttered and claustrophobic room would make you feel confused and overwhelmed. Especially when you are staying at a hostel, cleaning or personalizing your space will give you a sense of ownership, and the comfort of ‘home’.

The physical act of cleaning your room will also help you feel like you are taking the onus of your life and organizing it. Set sometime aside every week to organize and cleanse your space feel revitalized and usher in positivity in life.

6. Create a Routine

Having a routine helps you remain focused. It trains your brain to get more work done effectively as it gets used to the loop of activities.

Putting everything down in an organized fashion and do-able chunks (even better if it’s on paper instead of on your phone), will not only give you a tangible idea of what you need to do, it also holds you accountable to get it done.

Nothing is more satisfying than physically scratching out an activity on your To-Do List once you are done with it. Make sure the routine does not just include your classes and work, but also your fun activities and me-time!

7. Eat Healthy

Eat clean and healthy to feel good from within. Include lots of colorful and vitamin-rich vegetables in your diet, and avoid sugar, processed food, or grease.

Eating out regularly while in college is not only extremely unhealthy but also a disaster for the ever-depleting bank balance.

You could save some money and invest in some basic-grocery and fresh seasonal fruits or vegetables, and cook yourself a meal.

We usually associate cooking with something our mums toiled over at home, but making yourself something healthy (and occasionally indulgent), can be extremely therapeutic. You could cook along to a YouTube recipe video, or create your concoction!

8. Hydrate.

Drink lots of water, fresh fruit or vegetable juices, or tea (without added piles of sugar, of course) to clean your system, and get a glow from within.

Drink a cup of warm water (maybe with a slice of lemon, if you are feeling fancy) to start the day- it’ll help you feel alert, and the water will also boost your metabolism.

You have possibly heard this advice a thousand times before, possibly from your mother yelling after you to drink your eight glasses a day or scolding you for not finishing your bottle in school, but keeping yourself is definitely one of the best things you could be doing for your body.

9. Exercise

Exercise to get yourself in shape and improve your self-esteem. It need not be extreme, but even going for a walk or run regularly will help you feel better.

10. Be a Plant-Mommy

Introduce some greenery into your personal space. Not only do the plants brighten up your space and make it feel homely, but they also literally breathe some life into it. Tending to plants and watching them grow will give you a sense of ‘purpose’ and responsibility, and is a great alternative for a conventional pet while living in dorms.
